MILWAUKEE (AP) — Prosecutors have amended charges against a man accused of shooting a 10-year-old girl on a Milwaukee playground.
Eighteen-year-old Sylvester Lewis was charged Monday with first-degree intentional homicide in the death of Sierra Guyton.
The girl was shot in the head May 21 at a school playground. She was taken off life support at Children’s Hospital on July 13. Lewis was initially charged with first-degree reckless injury.
He’s also charged with recklessly endangering the safety of Sierra’s sister, Kiara Guyton, as well as possessing a gun as a felon.
According to a criminal complaint, Lewis told police he knew children were in the area when he opened fire in retaliation after a bullet whizzed by his ear during a confrontation with other men.
