Woman jailed for 2 weeks, but not charged files lawsuit

FOND DU LAC, Wis. (AP) — A woman who was arrested and jailed for two weeks, but never charged with a crime, has filed a civil rights lawsuit against officials in Fond du Lac County.

Tina Ewell’s federal lawsuit is in connection with the death of her brother-in-law, Timothy Nance. Ewell’s sister, Eve Nance, is charged with first-degree intentional homicide and hiding a corpse. Nance is accused of shooting her husband and dumping his body in a wooded area in Milwaukee.

WLUK-TV says Ewell’s lawsuit contends she did not receive a judicial determination of probable cause for her arrest in timely manner.

The lawsuit names county and city officials. Fond du Lac County Corporation Counsel Meggin McNamara said she has not yet seen the lawsuit. Fond du Lac’s city attorney did not immediately return a phone call.
