MILWAUKEE (AP) — Federal prosecutors say a Manitowoc County man convicted of selling fake prescription drugs online has been sentenced to a year in prison.

The U.S. Attorney’s office in Milwaukee announced the sentence Tuesday of 46-year-old Shon Tay Dessart of Reedsville.

Prosecutors say Dessart manufactured prescription drugs using raw materials from China. They say his drugs contained the active ingredients found in drugs such as Viagra, Cialis and the hair-loss drug Propecia.

Another product allegedly contained clenbuterol, which is FDA-approved for use in horses but not humans.

Dessart says the drugs were “for research only” and not intended for human consumption. But prosecutors say he marketed them on bodybuilding websites and sold them in various colors and flavors.

A jury convicted him of 23 violations of the Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act.
