Jon Richards, a Democrat running to be state attorney general, announced Monday that he has received endorsements from two Milwaukee-based construction unions.

Richards was endorsed by the Milwaukee Building and Construction Trades Council and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local 494. He has also received endorsements from the United Steelworkers and the Amalgamated Transit Union 998, among other groups.

Richards had represented parts of Milwaukee in the state Assembly before deciding to run for the attorney general’s position. He will face two other Democrats in the Aug. 12 primary election: Dane County District Attorney Ismael Ozanne and Jefferson County District Attorney Susan Happ.

The only Republican running for attorney general is Waukesha County District Attorney Brad Schimel. The current attorney general, J.B. Van Hollen, a Republican, announced last year that he would not seek election to a third term.
