BARABOO, Wis. (AP) — A Reedsburg baby sitter has been found guilty of killing a 4-month-old child in her care.

Jurors in Sauk County deliberated for about 2-½ hours before finding Jeanette Janusiak guilty Wednesday of first-degree intentional homicide in the death of Payten Rain Shearer.

District Attorney Kevin Calkins told jurors the baby’s blood was found spattered on a wall, on a sheet and on a pillow case and diapers found in the trash. Defense attorney Eric Schulenburg argued that it was unlikely that a woman who had no documented history of child abuse would murder the infant daughter of her best friend.

The Baraboo News Republic says a sentencing date has not been set.
