Gov. Scott Walker’s office is accepting applications to fill the seat vacated by Dane County Circuit Judge Maryann Sumi, who resigned May 30.
Sumi announced in April that she would be stepping down. She had been on the bench since being appointed by Gov. Tommy Thompson in 1998.
According to a news release from Walker’s office, the judge appointed to replace Sumi will serve until April 2015, and that person would have to run for their next term.
Those interested in applying can find information on Walker’s website. The deadline to apply is 5 p.m. July 2.
Sumi was best known as the judge who halted Act 10 in 2011 after she found that Republican lawmakers violated the state open meetings laws during the run up to its passage.
