Care giver on trial in 4-month-old’s death

BARABOO, Wis. (AP) — A child care provider is on trial in Sauk County for the death of a 4-month-old child.

Jeannette Janusiak is charged with first-degree intentional homicide in the 2011 death of Peyton Shearer. Prosecutors say the baby died from three blows to the head. The Reedsburg woman said the child fell off a bed and hit her head on an open nightstand drawer.

According to a criminal complaint, a doctor who examined the child told police the baby was brain-dead after suffering skull fractures from blows to the head.

WISC-TV reports jury selection and opening statements were done Monday.
