JANESVILLE, Wis. (AP) — A Janesville man has been bound over for trial on charges he stabbed his roommate in a fight in their apartment earlier this month.

Twenty-eight-year-old Clayton Courtney appeared in Rock County court for a preliminary hearing Monday. Courtney faces attempted first-degree intentional homicide and related charges in the case.

Courtney’s attorney argued that the prosecution did not prove Courtney intended to kill Michael Clark. Clark was stabbed in the shoulder and foot.

The Janesville Gazette reports Courtney is expected to enter a plea at his arraignment Thursday.

Courtney also is being investigated in the death of his girlfriend, 21-year-old Britney Cross. Police found Cross’s body behind a former furniture store the morning after Courtney is accused of attacking his roommate. Cross died of a blunt-force injury to the head.
