MILWAUKEE (AP) — A fired Milwaukee police officer who was convicted of slamming a suspect’s head against a wall has been fined $2,000.

A jury found 49-year-old Rodney R. Lloyd guilty of misconduct in public office. He faced up to 18 months in prison and a $10,000 fine at Friday’s sentencing.

Circuit Judge Glenn Yamahiro stayed a 45-day jail sentence. That means Lloyd would only serve the time if he fails to pay the fine or complete 250 hours of community service.

Defense attorney Steven Kohn said the sentence was reasonable, although he and Lloyd disagree with the jury’s verdict. Kohn says they’re considering whether to appeal.

Lloyd arrested a man on a domestic-violence complaint last year. Prosecutors say Lloyd slammed the man’s head into a concrete wall when he was being verbally abusive.
