A bill that removes voluntary intoxication as a possible defense in criminal cases was signed Wednesday by Gov. Scott Walker.
The bill only applies to those who knowingly and willingly ingested drugs or alcohol and cannot be used to say a defendant did not have the necessary intent to commit a crime. It does not affect any laws that allow for involuntary intoxication or being drugged to be used as a defense.
It passed out of the Assembly on a voice vote and out of the Senate 24-9.
