5 years in prison for deadly bike crash

CHIPPEWA FALLS, Wis. (AP) — A woman accused of driving drunk and killing a dentist who was biking in western Wisconsin has been sentenced to five years in prison.

Twenty-eight-year-old Krista Holler of Cadott earlier pleaded guilty to homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle in the death of Robert Tschabrun. The dentist was killed last June while riding his bike near Stanley. A passer-by discovered the body of the 71-year-old man in a ditch along with Holler’s abandoned car.

Chippewa County Circuit Judge James Babler also on Thursday ordered Holler to serve five years of extended supervision after her prison time. Babler told Holler that Tschabrun’s death wasn’t an accident, it was a homicide because Holler chose to get behind the wheel after drinking that night.

The Eau Claire Leader-Telegram says Holler tearfully apologized for her actions.
