Milwaukee County Circuit Judge Karen Christenson, who has been on the bench since 1998, is stepping down, according to a news release from Gov. Scott Walker’s office.
The judge, who currently presides over civil cases, will leave effective Aug. 1, the release states. She was last re-elected in 2010, and her term was not set to expire until 2016.
Christenson did not immediately return a call Monday afternoon.
The release also states that Walker’s office is accepting applications to fill Christenson’s seat. The appointed judge is expected to serve until at least August 2015, and an election will be held for the seat in April of that year.
Those interested in applying can find information at Walker’s website. The deadline to apply is 5 p.m. March 24.
