Research agencies doing work under a federal court improvement grant would have access to juvenile court records under a bill passed out of committee on Monday.
AB 708 now will be sent to the full Assembly. If passed, it would pertain to grants that deal with child welfare, according to the bill’s text. It would also allow researchers working under a grant to go to certain juvenile court hearings.
The bill is sponsored by Rep. Joan Ballweg, R-Markesan. It passed unanimously out of the Assembly’s judiciary committee.
A public hearing for the Senate version of the bill is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. Wednesday in front of the Committee on Judiciary and Labor. Sen. Luther Olsen, R-Ripon, is sponsoring that version. Follow @eheisigWLJ
