ELLSWORTH, Wis. (AP) — A Minnesota man has pleaded not guilty to criminal charges resulting from a boating crash that killed a Wisconsin man.

Prosecutors say Patrick Puhalla was driving a boat while intoxicated last June on the St. Croix River when he crashed into the shoreline, killing 40-year-old David Riley of New Richmond. Puhalla, Riley and another man were returning to a marine in Afton, Minn., when they crashed.

The St. Paul Pioneer Press says the 47-year-old Puhalla has pleaded not guilty to homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle and four other charges. Puhalla says electronics were driving the boat at the time.
