MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Madison attorney David Leeper says he will run as a Democrat for state treasurer and his campaign will focus the need for a state-run bank.
Leeper said in a statement that Wisconsin should use its credit and resources to provide small business, student and other loans for its residents. Leeper says it’s better for the state to invest its money here than on Wall Street.
Leeper served as Green County district attorney for about two years in the 1970s, leaving to work as a legal services attorney for low-income residents.
Leeper is the son of former Rep. Midge Miller and the brother of Sen. Mark Miller.
He’s also a minister in the United Methodist Church.
