TOWN OF FOREST, Wis. (AP) — A small town in St. Croix County is suing over a wind farm approved by state regulators after the same commissioners rejected the project.

The town of Forest contends Emerging Energies’ proposed project for 44 wind turbines doesn’t generate enough power for the state Public Service Commission to have authority to grant a permit. State regulators can only consider a permit if a wind farm generates at least 100 megawatts.

Emerging Energies increased the size of its project after the town board rejected a permit. That sent the project’s permitting to the PSC. The Journal Sentinel says state commissioners initially said the wind farm wouldn’t comply with noise standards. But, Emerging Energies, of Richfield, said it would comply by cutting nighttime operation of the turbines. And, the PSC gave the go-ahead.
