Milwaukee could try again to reach settlements with the remaining parties in its City Hall facade lawsuit.

The city filed the suit against the general contractor and design team, as well as their insurers, for their role the 2008 facade restoration project. The repaired facade failed in 2011, and the city sued in 2012.

Janesville-based general contractor J.P. Cullen & Sons Inc. was the only firm to take the city up on its offer earlier this year and signed a settlement in August. According to court documents, the city continued to pursue breach of contract and negligence claims against the remaining parties: Milwaukee-based Bloom Cos. LLC, which provided construction oversight and inspection on the project; Milwaukee-based architect Engberg Anderson Inc.; and Waltham, Mass.-based engineering firm Simpson, Gumpertz & Heger Inc.; as well as their insurers.

According to the Monday agenda for the city’s Judiciary & Legislation Committee, city attorneys are requesting a resolution to approve a settlement with the parties.

Assistant City Attorney Miriam Horwitz declined to comment, as did attorneys for SGH. Attorneys for Bloom Cos. and Engberg Anderson Inc. did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
