Gov. Scott Walker has appointed longtime Wisconsin attorney Tom Frost to serve as Washburn County’s district attorney.

Frost was appointed Monday to replace Michael Bitney, whom Walker appointed as a Barron County Circuit Court judge in July. He has served as a special prosecutor in Washburn County since Bitney took the bench.

Frost spent 15 years as a prosecutor in Minnesota. He was also the commissioner of Minnesota’s Department of Public Safety between 1991 and 1993.

Since 2005, he has worked as a private attorney.

Bitney had served as Washburn County’s district attorney since 1993.
