A teenage inmate became combative at the Wood County Jail and attacked a total of four officers, leaving three with bruises and swelling, prosecutors said this week.
The officers all declined medical treatment, but the alleged attack resulted in four new felony counts against Elijuwon M. Clawson, 18, of Nekoosa, the Daily Tribune Media reported.
The officers were escorting Clawson to a court appearance Wednesday, on charges that he trashed a house and caused an estimated $8,000 in damage.
The officers guided him down a hallway when he suddenly punched one officer in the chest, slammed another into a concrete wall and hit a third in the leg, the criminal complaint said. Officers eventually subdued him with a stun gun.
When he was taken to a hospital for treatment he allegedly became combative again. Prosecutors said he pulled an intravenous line out of his arm and kicked an officer twice, causing a half-inch cut on her finger.
Clawson made a bond appearance Thursday from his jail cell, where the court entered not-guilty pleas on his behalf for multiple misdemeanor charges of resisting an officer, criminal damage to property and two counts of disorderly conduct. He also faces four felony counts of battery by a prisoner.
Online court records on Friday didn’t list a defense attorney for Clawson.
The initial charges stem from a disturbance Tuesday at a Nekoosa home. A responding officer heard loud smashing noises and saw items flying out of windows.
No one answered the door so the officer, along with another officer and deputy, went inside. They found Clawson alone in the home and the entire residence “ripped apart,” the complaint said.
They also found multiple broken windows, smashed kitchen appliances, a countertop ripped from its foundation and multiple cupboard doors ripped off their hinges.
