SPARTA, Wis. (AP) – A former minister has been sentenced to life in prison for molesting a young boy in western Wisconsin.

Sixty-six-year-old Michael Delaney, from Tomah, was convicted of sexually assaulting the 13-year-old boy in 2008. A criminal complaint says Delaney threatened to tell people the teen was gay if he told about the abuse.

Monroe County Circuit Judge Todd Ziegler also imposed another 50 years for child enticement. The life sentence was mandatory because Delaney has prior sexual assault convictions. He served prison time after he was convicted in 1982 of two counts of sexual abuse of a child in Arizona.

The La Crosse Tribune says Delaney retired from the ministry at the Church of God of Prophecy in Necedah.
