MEDFORD, Wis. (AP) — One of four people convicted of setting a series of arson fires has been sentenced in Taylor County to seven months in jail.

Twenty-year-old Chris Zak pleaded no contest to two counts of arson. Three other felony charges were dismissed.

WSAW-TV reports that if Zak violates the terms of his bond, he will have to serve seven years in prison.

In all, there were four arson fires in August and November 2011 in Rib Lake and Medford, including three barns and one abandoned home.

Prosecutors say former Rib Lake firefighter Jason Schmudlach asked his friends to start the fires so he could put them out. Schmudlach is serving a five-year prison sentence.
