A Milwaukee resident who officials identified as a sovereign citizen was convicted Thursday of filing phone liens against judges and individuals.

Cornelius Hill, 35, was arrested in September 2012 for filing liens against circuit court judges who handled criminal and civil matters in court, according to the state Department of Justice. The liens claimed that Hill was owed anywhere from $500,000 to $202 million.

The jury for Hill’s trial in Dane County was picked Monday and found him guilty Thursday of 12 counts of criminal slander.

Circuit Judge William Hanrahan will sentence Hill at a later date. He will be held in jail without bond while officials conduct a pre-sentence investigation.

Hill now faces up to six years in prison for each count.

Hill was on the run for several months before he was captured by law enforcement for the slander charges.
