BEV BUTULA: Learn how to write ‘good’

Looking to enhance your writing skills?

Bryan Garner, the highly recognized author and editor, offers a variety of interesting materials on his website, LawProse. My favorite are the Supreme Court Justice interviews. They might be of particular interest to litigators.

Garner recorded conversations with eight of the nine justices in 2006 and 2007. The focus is legal writing and advocacy.

Another menu choice on LawProse is to a daily blog that includes a variety of writing and grammar tips. For example, a recent tip discussed the correct way to use articles before abbreviations.

To assist researchers in locating specific entries, a search option is available.

Individuals can also subscribe to the “Garner’s Usage Tip of the Day” or add the blog to their RSS feeds.
