The Wisconsin Public Service Corp. has been ordered to pay $80,000 in forfeitures and court costs for excessively polluting the area surrounding its coal power plant in Rothschild.
The judgment came in the wake of reports the Green Bay company filed with the Department of Natural Resources that said the Weston Coal Power Plants exceeded its carbon monoxide, organic compounds and sulfur dioxide emissions limitations several years ago, according to a news release from the state Attorney General’s office.
The company also operated its plant several times without a pollution control device, according to the release.
The state and company reached a settlement this month. Marathon County Circuit Judge Jill Falstad signed the judgment Wednesday.
