A Kenosha company was ordered Tuesday to pay nearly $49,000 in fines and court costs for violating state environmental laws, according to a news release from the state attorney general’s office.
According to the complaint filed in court, Gurpal Wisconsin Stations LLC failed to protect three flammable liquid storage tanks from corrosion and leaks at the former site of a gas station it owned.
The state Department of Safety and Professional Services issued two orders in 2009 requiring the company to obtain permits for each tank or to remove them completely. Since Gurpal failed to do so, the attorney general’s office filed a complaint in March.
Kenosha County Circuit Judge Bruce Schroeder also ordered the company to obtain a permit for each tank or to completely remove them.
