An Arizona personal-injury lawyer who was disbarred for misappropriating hundreds of thousands of dollars of client trust fund money may now have his Wisconsin law license revoked, according to an Office of Lawyer Regulation complaint filed Monday.

Yuri Nielsen, a Marquette graduate who received his Wisconsin law license in 2005, was disbarred in Arizona on May 2 after a variety of complaints were filed against him, according to the complaint. The attorney, who is listed as being employed by The Nielsen Law Firm PLLC, Phoenix, was the subject of multiple client complaints in Arizona.

The State Bar of Arizona later filed a complaint for neglecting clients and for misappropriating money. During a hearing in March, Nielsen, who represented himself, “testified he is presently unable to account for $428,867.20 in client funds that were withdrawn by him from these trust accounts,” according to Arizona court documents. He did not dispute the allegations and voluntarily went through with the disbarment proceedings.

The complaint asked the justices to revoke Nielsen’s Wisconsin license due to Arizona’s findings.

Nielsen did not return phone calls or an email on Thursday. Arizona court documents show he did not contest the majority of the allegations.

According to the Wisconsin complaint, Nielsen failed to notify the OLR of his disbarment within the 20-day window required by the state Supreme Court. They are asking the justices to order Nielsen to explain why he shouldn’t be disbarred – if there are any reasons – like he was in Arizona.
