MADISON, Wis. (AP) – A Madison man accused of trying to kill his wife by burning her has apparently reached a plea deal and will avoid next week’s trial.

A Dane County court official tells WKOW-TV Andrew Spear will enter a plea Friday. Spear’s trial on attempted homicide was scheduled to start July 22. No details of the possible plea deal were released.

Authorities say Spear took his wife, Mary Spear, to a Madison storage unit, doused her with gasoline, lit the gas, and then helped her extinguish a small fire. Mary Spear, an attorney, was not seriously hurt in the August 2012 incident.

Prosecutors say Andrew Spear accused his wife of having an affair, which she denied.
