MADISON, Wis. (AP) – The sole survivor of a one-car crash that killed four of his friends has been sentenced to 32 years in prison.

Dane County Circuit Judge William Hanrahan told 19-year-old Victor Benitez, of Madison, Wednesday he had made “a series of outrageously bad decisions.” The Wisconsin State Journal reports the judge cited Benitez’s use of alcohol, marijuana and cocaine before last year’s crash in Fitchburg.

Benitez was convicted in March of four counts of homicide by drunken driving, four counts of homicide by driving under a controlled substance, four counts of driving without a valid license causing death, and one count of obstructing police.

Assistant Attorney General Tara Jenswold said Benitez is a thrill-seeker and feels no remorse.

But Benitez said he’s still a young man who’s learning from his mistakes.
