The Milwaukee County Board of Supervisors voted 14-4 Wednesday to direct Milwaukee-based Hawks Quindel SC to proceed with a review of Act 14 and evaluate whether there is a basis for the county to sue over its implications.
County Executive Chris Abele vetoed the board’s June resolution to hire the firm. Act 14 scheduled a 2014 referendum to determine whether Milwaukee County supervisors’ pay should be cut and altered the roles and responsibilities of the county’s executive and legislative branches.
Abele objected to spending taxpayer money to retain the firm, according to a veto message sent to supervisors, and was uncomfortable with the possibility the firm might have a conflict of interest.
Hawks Quindel represents plaintiffs in several cases filed against the county.
