MADISON, Wis. (AP) – Wisconsin’s self-professed “Lemon Law King” says positive changes have made to a bill in the Legislature changing the law when consumers can sue auto manufacturers.
Attorney Vince Megna said the proposal up for a vote Wednesday in the Assembly is better than what was originally put forward, but not as good as current law.
Megna said Monday, “I think we have a lemon law that can be used, whereas a month ago we didn’t.”
Changes include allowing cases to be brought three years after a vehicle’s purchase, instead of just two. Current law is up to six years.
One key part of the bill removing a requirement that consumers who win civil lawsuits be awarded twice the amount of monetary losses remains as proposed.
