MILWAUKEE (AP) — A state-hired psychiatrist has decided that an Iraq War veteran was not suffering from a mental disease when he allegedly killed his wife while she was on duty as a suburban Milwaukee police officer.

The report was discussed during a hearing Friday in the case of Benjamin Sebena.

Prosecutors say Sebena admitted to fatally shooting his wife Jennifer Sebena in Wauwatosa on Christmas Eve.

He has pleaded not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect. His attorney has also hired a doctor to examine him and that report is expected to be reviewed at a June 21 hearing. A judge is also expected to issue a ruling then about whether Sebena’s alleged confession to police should be thrown out.

His trial is set for July 8.
