MILWAUKEE (AP) – The son of a former judge has been sentenced to life in a mental health facility for killing a woman in a Milwaukee park last year.
Dane County Judge Sarah O’Brien found 33-year-old James Donegan not guilty of first-degree intentional homicide by reason of mental disease or defect Monday.
Donegan pleaded no contest to the homicide charge last month. An armed robbery charge was dismissed as part of a plea agreement.
The Journal Sentinel reports mental health experts said Monday that Donegan suffered delusions he was involved in a religious war between angels and demons.
According to the complaint, Donegan told investigators he attacked 45-year-old Teresa Boone of Milwaukee because he thought she had a gun in her purse.
Donegan is the son of former Milwaukee County Judge Thomas Donegan.
