WISCONSIN RAPIDS, Wis. (AP) — A 23-year-old Grant man has been sentenced to a year in jail for the 2011 shooting death of his friend.

Wood County Judge Greg Potter on Monday also placed Tyler Enkro on 10 years of probation. The judge allowed Enkro to serve his sentence intermittently to allow him to run his dock business during the summer months.

Enkro pleaded no contest in March to a felony charge of homicide by intoxicated use of firearm in the death of 31-year-old Nick Hoffmann.

The judge also ordered Enkro to do 100 hours of community service and visit Hoffmann’s grave once a year on the anniversary of his death.

The Wisconsin Rapids Tribune reports Hoffmann’s mother spoke in support of Enkro, asking the judge not to send him to jail.
