Who’s Doing What: Brookfield lawyer joins Marquette; Awards from across the state

ON THE RISE

John Pellmann of Pellmann, Drellos & Associates SC, Brookfield, was named a lecturer in the economics department at Marquette University. Pellmann will team-teach Economics and the Law, a senior honors/graduate level course. The class will examine the interplay between economics and the law, focusing on how both affect policymakers’ actions, and the often conflicting dynamics of how these decisions affect the economy and larger society. Pellmann earned his law degree from Marquette University Law School in 1995.

AWARDS & HONORS

Jon Axelrod of DeWitt Ross & Stevens SC was elected president of The Fellows of the Wisconsin Law Foundation. Axelrod is a partner in the firm’s Madison office and a member of the litigation practice group. He earned his law degree from the University of Wisconsin Law School in 1968.

• The Eastern District of Wisconsin Bar Association hosted its 11th Annual Meeting on April 25 and recognized the following award-winners:

  • Myron L. Gordon Lifetime Achievement Award: Laurence Hammond Jr. (retired) of Quarles & Brady LLP;
  • Judge Robert W. Warren Public Service Award: Hon. William Callahan Jr. of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Wisconsin;
  • Judge Dale E. Ihlenfeldt Bankruptcy Awards: Nathan DeLadurantey of DeLadurantey Law Office LLC, Milwaukee; Jay Pitner of Gray & Associates LLP, New Berlin; and Debra Tuttle of Metro Milwaukee Mediation Program/Tuttle Legal & Mediation LLC, Pewaukee.
Donald Layden Jr.

Donald Layden Jr., a partner in the Quarles & Brady LLP’s Milwaukee office, received Marquette University’s 2013 Alumnus of the Year award. Layden is a member of the firm’s corporate services group and focuses on clients in the technology and business services areas. He earned his law degree from Marquette University Law School in 1982.

Jane Lokken

Jane Lokken of Ruder Ware LLSC, Eau Claire, received the Woman of Achievement award from the Eau Claire Area Chamber of Commerce. Lokken is the chair-elect of the Eau Claire Community Foundation and on the Board of Directors of Clear Vision Eau Claire, U.S. Bank Eau Claire’s Advisory Board, and the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Foundation. She also is a member of the Ethics Committee for Mayo Clinic Health Systems Northwest Wisconsin Region. She earned her law degree from the University of Wisconsin Law School in 1987.

Michele McKinnon of Conway, Olejniczak & Jerry SC successfully completed the requirements for national certification in creditors’ rights law from the American Board of Certification. Requirements included devoting 30 percent of her practice to bankruptcy related matters and earning 60 hours of bankruptcy education in the past three years. She is currently the only creditors’ rights specialist in Brown County. She earned her law degree from Marquette University Law School in 2002.
