WAUSAU, Wis. (AP) – A Wausau man has been ordered to stand trial for bigamy.

Forty-five-year-old Timothy Swinea has pleaded not guilty to felony charges of bigamy and bail jumping and a misdemeanor charge of making a false statement on a marriage license.

Swinea’s wife tells Daily Herald Media that he never divorced a woman he married 20 years ago in Missouri. A criminal complaint says the Weston woman first contacted police in December and accused Swinea of forging a check from her day care business. Swinea was on probation from a 2012 theft conviction, was taken into custody and jailed on a probation hold.

A conviction on the current charges against Swinea could send him to prison for nine years.
