MADISON, Wis. (AP) — The state’s largest police union is suing the Wisconsin Counties Association, alleging it has violated the state’s open records law.
According to the counties association, it’s not subject to the open records law. The police union wants financial records, audits and other information from the counties association. The union is fighting efforts by the counties to reclassify their jailers as general employees, rather than protective service employees. A reclassification would limit the jailers’ collective bargaining power.
The Journal Sentinel says the union wants a Dane County judge to declare the counties association is a quasi-governmental agency and therefore subject to — and in violation of — the open records law.
