Walker appoints commissioner to replace Milwaukee County judge

Tax Appeals Commissioner Thomas McAdams will replace outgoing Milwaukee Circuit Judge Jean DiMotto, Gov. Scott Walker’s office announced Tuesday.

McAdams will serve as the Branch 7 judge following DiMotto’s June 6 retirement.

McAdams was appointed to the Tax Appeals Commission in 2008 by Gov. Jim Doyle. Prior to that, he spent 10 years with the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office followed by a stint at the Milwaukee office of Reinhart, Boerner, Van Deuren. He returned to the DA’s office in 1999 as Misdemeanor Team captain, where he supervised 23 prosecutors, including the Domestic Violence Unit. In 2005, he was selected as legal director for the inter-agency Milwaukee Metro Drug Enforcement Group.

He earned an L.L.M. in tax law from DePaul University in 1997. He also holds a J.D. (1987) and B.A. (1983) from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
