HOWARD, Wis. (AP) – An investigation report has cleared a Brown County sheriff’s deputy who lost control during a high-speed chase and caused a collision that left a woman in critical condition.
A Green Bay Press-Gazette report says the district attorney’s office concluded there was no criminal negligence or recklessness on the officers’ part.
Deputy Rueben Meisner was chasing a car in July that had been clocked going 110 mph. The report says his colleague placed spiked sticks in the road to stop the suspect, but Meisner lost control when he swerved to avoid them.
His squad car slammed into another vehicle. Twenty-seven-year-old Michelle Lynn Lecker suffered head trauma, a ruptured spleen and other injuries.
Meisner told investigators he had to pursue the speeding car because the driver showed no signs of stopping.
