HAYWARD, Wis. (AP) – Hayward has agreed to pay $628,000 to settle a lawsuit by a club owner over the western Wisconsin city’s restrictions on live music.

Molly Otis thought she won last August. Then the city decided to appeal. But Otis tells the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel the city’s insurance company agreed to a mediated settlement.

Otis gets $401,400. Her attorneys will share the rest, with $155,000 going to Glenn Stoddard, who wound up marrying Otis.

Otis started the Pavilion after a career as a recording and touring musician in the 1980s and ’90s. She and a changing rotation of visiting musicians play live acoustic music in the courtyard until midnight a couple nights a week. The city in 2007 passed an ordinance requiring permits for anyone presenting music outdoors after 10 p.m.
