A group of 150 families has sued Buckeye Partners LP, Houston, and West Shore Pipeline Cos., Arlington Heights, Ill., due to groundwater contamination at their Washington County homes resulting from a gas pipeline rupture in July. Additional families have expressed interest in joining the suit, according to a news release, and related entities were also named as defendants.

The spill occurred when a welded seam on a pipeline ruptured in Jackson, according to the release, and at least 55,000 gallons of gas contaminated surrounding aquifers. The families are claiming economic and emotional damages, according to the release, and are seeking punitive damages, compensation for their losses and establishment of a medical monitoring fund.

The Law Offices of Peter G. Angelos, Baltimore, and Habush Habush & Rottier SC, Milwaukee, are representing the plaintiffs.
