The Vyskocil family will pay $25,000 in penalties and court costs after settling an environmental lawsuit filed by the state, according to a news release.

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources received a complaint that Randall, Darren and Duane Vyskocil, owners of Phillips-based Vyskocil Brothers Builders, were illegally dumping demolition debris on land owned by their father, Otto Vyskocil. The debris included wood, glass, shingles, tin, plaster and paint and solvent cans, according to the release.

The Vyskocils dumped similar debris at another site, including insulation, according to the release.

The DNR alleged Vyskocil Brothers Builders did not properly treat the waste as hazardous and did not have a license to transport hazardous waste. The Vyskocils removed the waste from the two sites, according to the release, and no contamination of the surrounding area was detected.

Assistant Attorney General Mary Batt represented the state. Price Circuit Court Judge Douglas T. Fox approved the settlements Monday.
