BEV BUTULA: Statutes now available as e-books

The Wisconsin Legislative Reference Bureau announced that the Wisconsin Statutes are now available in e-book format. Both the standard EPUB and Kindle’s MOBI format are available. The release is still in Beta.

I downloaded the e-book in the EPUB format on a couple of devices, including by laptop. I also downloaded the book in MOBI to my Kindle. If you do not have a Kindle or Nook, there are may other e-readers available.

Since it was just released, I haven’t had much time to explore; at this point, however, I prefer to read it on my iPad via my Kindle App versus my actual Kindle. Others, with newer generations of the Kindle or Nook, may prefer using that device.

I tried it on my iPad’s “Free Books” app and, as the LRB seems to indicate in its help sheet, there were a few glitches. The e-book downloaded fine, but the app would close unexpectedly. I am not sure why this is happening, but to date I have not experienced this issue with other items downloaded on my “Free Books” app.

I also downloaded it to my laptop via Firefox’s e-pub reader. With this approach, the hyperlinks are active, but then it may just be easier to use the website directly.

I think it is a great move by the LRB to create the e-book. I look forward to testing it more and having it available.
