Milwaukee County supervisors on Thursday unanimously approved allocating $1,644,101 in Community Development Block Grants, which are financed by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

The supervisors acted on recommendations from Hector Colon, director of the county’s Department of Health and Human Services, and James Mathy, housing administrator for DHHS.

The county received grant applications totaling about $2.3 million. The DHHS report that lists the awards describes the ranking process as being based on project approach, experience, need, past performance and benefit to low- and moderate-income people, among other factors.

Legal Aid Society of Milwaukee was awarded $21,000 for its foreclosure mediation project, which was the full amount requested.
