SHEBOYGAN, Wis. (AP) – A judge has sentenced a 21-year-old Sheboygan man to 18 years in prison for a shooting that killed one man and wounded another outside a Walmart.

Kou Yang also will be on extended supervision for 12 years after serving his prison time.

A jury in July found Yang guilty of felony counts of first-degree reckless homicide and first-degree reckless injury in the Jan. 8 shooting that killed Pheng Lee and severely injured Chenglung Moua.

Yang had earlier pleaded no contest to possession of a firearm by a felon. He claimed self-defense in the shooting.

The Sheboygan Press reports Judge L. Edward Stengel took into account Yang’s lengthy criminal record in determining the sentence.
