MADISON, Wis. (AP) – A man charged with killing his landlord after an argument over food has pleaded guilty to charges in an agreement with Dane County prosecutors.

Twenty-five-year-old Edgar Salinas-Leal has pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of second-degree intentional homicide, among other charges, in the Feb. 3 death of Darrell Ballweg.

The victim’s wife, Deborah, witnessed the shooting and was in court for the plea Monday. A criminal complaint says the Ballwegs were eating in the townhouse they shared with the defendant and his family. After Salinas-Leal’s wife asked the Ballwegs to share their food, they refused and Salinas-Leal and Darrell Ballweg began to fight.

Authorities say Salinas-Leal left, returned with a gun and shot Darrell Ballweg in the chest.

The State Journal says a sentencing date has not been set.
