MADISON, Wis. (AP) — A state appeals court has upheld the homicide conviction of a man in the shooting death of another man found buried in a shallow grave in 2001 near Crandon.

The Third District Court of Appeals on Tuesday upheld the first degree homicide conviction of Victor Holm.

Holm represented himself in the appeal, arguing in part that his previous attorneys were ineffective and that a number of errors had been made by the court during his trial and previous appeals.

The appeals court rejected all his arguments and upheld his conviction in the 2001 death of 20-year-old Lance Leonard.

Leonard was found buried in a shallow grave near Crandon. Four others also were convicted in the case.
