State’s Supreme Court to hear prayer death appeal

MADISON, Wis. (AP) – The Wisconsin Supreme Court will hear the case of a Weston couple who prayed while their 11-year-old daughter died of undiagnosed diabetes in their home.

In 2009, separate juries convicted Dale and Leilani Neumann of second-degree reckless homicide for not seeking medical help for their daughter, Kara. The couple was sentenced to six months in jail and 10 years on probation.

The Neumanns appealed, arguing their actions were allowed under the state’s faith-healing law.

WSAW-TV reports that Dale Neumann’s attorney, Steven Miller, said although there was a death, the girl’s parents didn’t mean any harm.
