Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen on Friday announced Progressive Rail Inc., and its Wisconsin Northern Railroad division, must pay $49,000 in forfeitures, assessments, costs and fees for violating Wisconsin’s storm water and wetland protection laws, according to a news release from the Attorney General’s office.

Progressive Rail allegedly committed the violations in October 2011 while constructing new side and spur tracks during an expansion project in Eagle Point and Chippewa Falls, according to the release.

Van Hollen, according to the release, is also requiring Progressive Rail to obtain an after-the-fact wetland water quality certification for the project and pay for a Wetland Creation Project through the Chippewa County Department of Land Conservation and Forest Management.
