SUPERIOR, Wis. (AP) – Douglas County’s district attorney has determined officers involved in the shooting death of a carjacking suspect were justified in using deadly force.
DA Dan Blank said the two Superior officers “acted reasonably in self-defense” when they fatally shot 34-year-old Luke Anderson, of Duluth, Minn.
The Superior Daily Telegram said Sgt. William Lear and Officer Todd Carlson responded to a Walgreen’s store Feb. 17 on a report of an attempted armed carjacking. Police say Anderson couldn’t start the car he was trying to steal, so he fled in his own vehicle.
Anderson abandoned the car while being pursued. Police say he pointed a gun toward officers, who fired multiple shots. He then placed the gun under his own chin and fired. As officers came closer he again aimed at them, so they fired again.
