MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Gov. Scott Walker has signed a bill that allows judges to order GPS monitoring for people who violate restraining orders.

The measure calls for the state Department of Corrections to use GPS monitoring to track violators and call police if they enter areas they must avoid under their restraining orders. Anyone on monitoring would have to pay a $200 surcharge to cover tracking costs.

Walker, a Republican, signed the bill at the state Justice Department’s crime lab in Milwaukee on Monday morning.
